Richard Simmons

Sweatin' to the Oldies

Tonin' to the Oldies

....

As I mentioned in the page on Music, I really enjoy the Richard Simmons' DVDs.

He produced several DVDs called Sweatin' to the Oldies.  They all feature aerobic workouts using songs from the 60-80's.  Another DVD, called Disco Sweat features disco music such as "I Will Survive" and "Disco Inferno".  I own four of these DVDs, including Disco Sweat and enjoy them all.  Each of the workouts is about 45- 60 minutes long.
But Richard Simmons has another DVD called "Tonin' to the Oldies" that includes his usual cardio workout plus toning with resistance bands that is probably my favorite. The program is a blend of aerobics, stretching and muscle endurance.  I think it's great fun.  The program is only about 25 minutes long and the music (which includes Yellow Polka Dot Bikini, The Lion Sleeps Tonight, and Stop in the Name of Love) keeps me going even on days I'd rather be doing something else.
I understand that Mr. Simmons is no longer teaching any classes and I have not seen any new DVDs.  I hope he is doing well.  Even if you don't like Mr. Simmon's style of music,  you can admire the evangelistic fervor that he infused into his work.  I think his inclusive approach to exercise helped many people.
