Welcome to "Grans" Stay Strong
Hi. My name is Bernadette and I am a retired physician. A few years ago my daughter and I ran a fitness center called The Reconstruction Zone that focused on strength training programs for older adults. Most of our clients were 60-90 years old. I write more about the gym on the page called Special Fitness Centers under Programs. Although our gym is now closed, I am still interested in fitness research and fitness programs.
I started this website to share some information about Programs and Things I have found that can help us stay strong and active as we get older. I will talk about fitness research, fitness equipment, fitness centers, and other related topics. From time to time I may also add information about other items that might be of interest to older adults.
When I talk about one these things, I will tell you if I've actually tried them myself, or not.
I will also include references and links so you can get more information if you wish.

This site is designed to provide information for educational purposes only. This site is not designed to give you medical advice. I don't know enough about your health to tell you if any of these ideas are right and safe for you. I will leave that up to you, with the help of your doctor or your family.
And one more thing. Many of us are caring for older friends or relatives and trying to help them stay active and independent. When I ran the gym I learned that many of our oldest clients did not use the internet. If you find this website useful, I hope you will share the information with others who may not be able to access it on their own.
